Click and collect is the shortest distance between your website and your till. The customer buys online. They walk into your shop to get it. Nobody pays for shipping.
In North America it is called BOPIS. Your customers do not care what it is called. They care that it works, and on Shopify the core of it is free on every plan. Ten minutes, three steps, no app. Here is the whole thing.
Why Click and Collect Wins the Order
- Faster than any courier. Ordered at lunch. Collected on the way home. No delivery window, no missed-parcel card.
- Free to receive. The shipping fee kills more carts than anything else on your site. Gone.
- Certain. Paid for, held at the counter, name on the bag.
And every collection walks a paying customer past your shelves. That visit is the most valuable footfall you will get this week.
Small Tutorial: Switch It On in Shopify
1Add your shop as a location
In your Shopify admin, open Settings, then Locations. Create a location for each shop that actually holds stock: name, address, phone.
Settings, then Locations, then Add location. Click to view full size
Your own shops only. Partner retailers and stockists belong on a store locator map, not in your locations list.
2Turn on In-store pickup and set the promise
Under Settings, then Shipping and delivery, open Pickup in store and switch your location on. Two settings do all the work:
The two settings that matter: the ready-time promise and the pickup notification. Click to view full size
- Expected pickup date. Usually ready in 24 hours is a promise, not a label. Choose the one your quietest staff day can keep.
- Ready for pickup notification. Write it like a person: Bring your confirmation email when you come to collect your order.
3Take the first order
Pickup now appears inside Shopify's own checkout. Customer pays, picks your shop, the order lands in your admin routed to that location. Mark it ready, Shopify sends your message, they walk in.
Nothing sits on your cart page, so Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and the Buy Now button keep working for everyone.
The Promise Is the Product
Click and collect lives or dies on the ready-time promise. Say 24 hours and deliver in 2, and you have a customer for life. Say 2 hours and take a day, and you have a refund and a review. Set the promise from your slowest day. Then beat it.
What Shopify Covers, and Where It Stops
Credit where due: Shopify handles the order half well. Checkout offers pickup, most themes show a pickup widget on the product page, orders route to the right shop. One store, loyal locals? You may be done.
Growth asks harder questions. Which of your shops is closest to me? Which one has my size in stock right now? Where do I buy your brand from the retailers who carry it? The native tools go quiet, and that silence is where sales leak.
ShopBOPIS answers them, without ever touching your checkout:

- A Google Maps store locator your customers can actually search: typos, abbreviations, neighborhoods, all handled by Gemini AI.
- Live stock per shop, synced from the locations you set up in step one. The number on the map is the number in your admin.
- Stockists and partner retailers on the same map, synced from Shopify B2B Companies, without spending your location slots.
- Real storefront views and photos, so customers recognize the shopfront from the kerb.
When Other Shops Want to Stock Your Brand
Click and collect covers the shops you own. A lot of growth arrives from the ones you do not: the independent retailer who wants to carry your line, the distributor already selling to your customers, the studio or gym that wants a shelf of your product.
ShopBOPIS puts a dealer and stockist registration form on your locator page. They fill it in, the request lands in one dashboard, and you approve, decline, or ask a question. Approve it and that shop shows up on your map as a place to buy your brand.

Every approved dealer is a new pin on the map and one more counter your customers can collect from. The registration form is on the free plan.

Common Questions
What is click and collect?
Buying online and collecting the order at a physical shop. Same thing as BOPIS and in-store pickup; click and collect is the common name in the UK, Europe, and Australia.
Does Shopify support click and collect for free?
Yes. Pickup in store is built into every Shopify plan under Settings. You add software only for the finding layer: a searchable map, stock per shop, stockists.
Do I need extra hardware or staff to offer it?
No. Orders arrive in the Shopify admin you already use. A shelf behind the counter and a clear ready message cover most shops.
Can customers see which shop has an item in stock?
Not with the native tools. That is what the locator layer adds: live stock per shop on a searchable map, so the customer picks the right shop before leaving the house.
Can independent retailers list themselves as stockists?
Yes, with a registration form on your locator page. Requests arrive in one dashboard where you approve or decline, and approved shops appear on your map.
